After a two year absence due to Covid, we were so happy to get back to our patients in Guatemala, who also missed us very much. This wonderful group of doctors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, medical students and non health care providers conducted family, adult, and school clinics in San Andrés Ceballos in partnership with Nueva Generación. They also had a chocolate cooking class, and hiked the volcano and Cerro del Cruz. It was such a joyous experience to re-connect with our patients and friends in Guatemala.
This team of family nurse practitioners, women's health nurse practitioner, registered nurses, graduate BSN nurses, and BSN students provided a school clinic and foot clinic in Santiago de Zamora, a school clinic in San Felipe de Jesus, and a cervical cancer screening clinic in San Andrés Ceballos in partnership with Doctora Patricia de Baiza with Fe en Practica and with Nueva Generación. They also enjoyed a chocolate cooking class and a volcano hike.
Dr. Goodman went back to Ecuador after Covid restrictions lifted to meet the new rectora. Together we planned the next jornada for our team to come in August 2022. Dra. Blanca is a wonderful person who truly cares about her country and the small rural area in Pan y Agua where she grew up.
Finally, back in Ecuador in post-Covid times, our team of physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and non-health care providers conducted family, school, and adult clinics in Pan y Agua, La Unión, and Jipijapa. It was a joy working with and instructing the nursing students from our partner, Universidad Estatal del Sur de Manabi. We partnered with the university and the new rectora, Doctora Blanca Soledad Indacochea Ganchozo. The university hosted an experience on a boat in the Pacific Ocean to watch the humpback whales. It was exhilarating.
This small but powerful and diverse team of nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and non health care providers conducted school health screenings in San Luisito and San Lorenzo. We then went back to these communities where we donated and installed 24 woodstoves. The team also went to a chocolate cooking class, and hiked both the volcano and Cerro del Cruz.
